As we move through life,  a lot of intense emotions will come up.

An important question is: how do we cope with these feelings? A powerful practice that has helped me is using my breath in a conscious way.   When we practice using the breath in a conscious way, we can help calm our mind, learn to be present with our feelings, and care for them.  Here is a nice simple practice you can do for just a few minutes each day:

  1. Take a breath in for a full four seconds. Hold your breath for 2 seconds.  Breathe out for 4 seconds. Hold the breath out for 2 seconds.  Repeat a few times.

  2. Notice what you are feeling in your mind and body.  Allow any thoughts and feelings to

      “take the space” they need.

    3. If there are difficult feelings, send caring thoughts to         them.  You could say something like “I am here for             you; you are cared for.”

This practice may feel unnatural at first.  Let yourself feel any resistance, and keep practicing.  In time, it can be a real “lifeline” in taking care of ourselves.

Wishing you a peaceful day,

~Noah
